It all began when we received a call from the Stake President. Thinking one of us was going to get a Stake calling, we tried guessing who it would be for. When we arrived in President Raine’s office, he looked at us and said, “I had your name on a list to call but didn’t know why. Then last night I got a call from the Salt Lake Mission Department asking if I would contact you to see if you would consider serving a 2nd mission in Africa, specifically the Uganda Kampala Mission. Now you don’t need to answer right now, but go home and think about it, then let me know. If not Africa, just consider serving somewhere.”
Needless to say, we thought about it for all of about an hour, we both felt the Lord needed us back in Africa and neither of us wanted to tell the Lord “no”. A week later, the Stake President was released, and a new one was called.
President Sloan was sustained and he called us in the next Sunday. He said that he had received 2 calls from the Mission Dept Saturday night at 11:30 pm asking where our mission recommendation forms were. He told them he had just been sustained a week ago and was trying to get his feet on the ground. They told him they needed our papers urgently. President Sloan said “ they must really want you to serve!” So to make a long story short, we had all our health assessments, dental, and papers submitted within 2 weeks.
We received our call on Christmas Eve 2019, and to my surprise we were called to serve in the Uganda Kampala Mission with assignment in the office in Ethiopia. We were to begin our service in March of 2020. However, Covid hit and so we waited….and waited….and waited.
We were set-apart and started our service remotely in August of 2020. We served 9 months at home when finally we were cleared to travel to Ethiopia on our “hump” day.
